De Pere School District Food Service

Farm to School

“Farm to School” connects schools and local farms with the objectives of serving healthy meals in school cafeterias, improving student nutrition, providing agriculture, health and nutrition education opportunities, and supporting local and regional farmers. Over the past two years the De Pere Schools Food Service Department has began its venture into farm to school by purchasing locally grown apples and pears from Hillside Apple Orchard in Casco, WI.  Starting this school year locally grown produce purchased from Ledgeview Gardens from right here in De Pere has been offered on our lunch lines.  Students have tried items like orange watermelon, yellow tomatoes, colored carrots, and English cucumbers.

Now with our partnership with the Brown County Farm to School Taskforce we are working towards bringing other locally grown foods into our schools!
